The Adams County Community Foundation is celebrating a season of major community investments, awarding grants and scholarships totaling more than $423,000 while also earning national recognition for its leadership.
The Community Foundation recently announced $137,500 in grants to seven Adams County nonprofits working in areas including affordable housing, mental health care, workforce development and family support services.
The grants will support programs ranging from home repairs for elderly and disabled residents to autism services, workforce and computer training, and emergency assistance for families in crisis.
“These grants are about helping our neighbors,” said Matt Thomas, grants officer for the Community Foundation. “Every gift helps improve lives right here in Adams County.”
The funding is intended to help local nonprofits address some of the county’s most pressing needs while strengthening long-term community support systems.
In addition to the grant awards, the Community Foundation distributed $286,000 in scholarships during its annual scholarship awards ceremony held April 29.
The scholarships will assist Adams County students pursuing college degrees, trade school certifications and other career-training opportunities. Foundation officials said the awards were made possible through donations from local individuals, families and organizations committed to investing in the county’s future workforce.
The organization also announced key dates for its annual Giving Spree campaign, one of the county’s largest charitable fundraising efforts.
The 2026 Giving Spree nonprofit application deadline is set for June 23. The annual event has connected donors with local charities for 16 years and is considered one of the nation’s largest per-capita giving days.

The Community Foundation also received national attention this month when president and CEO Ralph M. Serpe was honored by the Council on Foundations with its new Excellence in Community Foundation Leadership Award.
The national award recognizes innovation, leadership and impact in community philanthropy. The council cited Serpe’s work advancing charitable giving legislation, strengthening nonprofit endowments and supporting community foundations nationwide.
The Adams County Community Foundation has become a major philanthropic force in the region, helping connect donors, nonprofits and community organizations to address local needs while building long-term charitable resources for Adams County residents.
