The Adams County Farmers Market (ACFM) will close out its 2025 season with its first-ever Chicken Poop Bingo fundraiser on Saturday, November 1st, from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Gettysburg Rec Park.
The program will raise funds for food assistance programs at the farmers market.
The farmers market will be in operation as normal.
In this light-hearted fundraiser, $2 tickets will be sold with randomized numbers. Once a round’s tickets are sold, a chicken will be released onto a large bingo grid. Wherever the chicken ‘does its business’ first determines the winning number, and the winner will take home a 50/50 cash prize (up to $100 per round). ACFM plans five rounds throughout the day, giving shoppers multiple chances to win while supporting the market’s vital food programs.
ACFM plans to triple SNAP/EBT benefits for the last day of the farmers market in the wake of disruptions to SNAP benefits and emerging hunger-related issues. This triple SNAP initiative is an expansion of the SNAP “Double Dollars” program which is normally in effect at the farmers market and supported by Healthy Adams County and the Gettysburg Hospital Foundation. Funds raised during the Chicken Poop Bingo fundraiser event will help offset the additional food program costs and help ensure SNAP-eligible families get the maximum benefit possible before the market season officially ends for the year.
“Chicken Poop Bingo is exactly what it sounds like. Silly, memorable, and a guaranteed crowd-pleaser,” said Allison Stewart, ACFM Board Member and owner of chicken hatchery business Deer Run Farm. “It’s also a meaningful fundraiser that helps us keep fresh, local food accessible and our free community events going strong. A great way to close out the season.” The custom-made bingo board and chickens will be provided by Deer Run Farm.
A quirky staple of rural fairs and small-town fundraisers, Chicken Poop Bingo has long mixed friendly competition with farm-style humor to raise dollars for good causes. ACFM’s version brings that tradition to Gettysburg, pairing it with the market’s mission of connecting local farms and small businesses to the community.
Proceeds from Chicken Poop Bingo support ACFM’s work strengthening the local food economy and expanding food-access efforts that help SNAP-eligible households, including senior citizens and children, afford fresh, healthy food.
“Bring a sense of humor and help us finish the season strong,” said Reza Djalal, ACFM Market Manager. “This is a great chance to have some fun while helping fight hunger in Adams County. And you might even win some money for yourself!”

And I thought it was in bad taste that US Senator Mikulski came in in bib overalls for a formal ball fundraiser in our rural neighborhood. I could only surmise she thought we had no class or manners. But I guess she was right.
