Adams County Farmers Market Hosts 2nd Annual Zucchini Grand Prix Saturday

The Adams County Farmers Market is proud to announce the second year of its annual Zucchini Grand Prix, a fun, pinebox derby-style event for kids, taking place on Saturday, July 5th 2025, at the Gettysburg Rec Park.

Kids 16 and under are invited to get creative by designing and racing their own zucchini-mobiles. Zucchinis and craft supplies will be provided. Participants are invited to show off their creativity and engineering skills by crafting the fastest veggie-vehicle. Farmers market vendor Hilltop Farm Market has generously donated the zucchinis to make this event possible.

The period of 8:00am to 10:00am will be allocated for participant registration and car building, giving kids plenty of time to design and assemble their zucchini-mobiles with help from the market’s volunteer ‘pit crew.’ Racing will begin at 10:30 am, with participants competing for speed and creativity on the custom, hand-built Zucchini Grand Prix racetrack.

“This event is a fun, farmers market-themed exercise in STEM,” said Market Manager Reza Djalal. “Kids come up with some pretty interesting strategies to make the fastest zucchini possible.” All craft materials and zucchinis will be provided for participants, and there is no registration fee required to take part in the event.

Also returning this year is fan-favorite Zucchini Grand Prix announcer, Javier Sandoval of Heads or Tails Experience fame, who will entertain kids and parents alike with event announcements and humorous insights throughout the contest.

Prizes will be awarded for both the fastest zucchini and the most creative design, encouraging kids to get imaginative and go all out with their builds.

While this is a free event to participate in, donations to the farmers market are welcome to help support this fun and creative community activity.

Participants are advised that supplies may be limited and available on a first come, first served basis. To learn more about this event, please visit the Adams County Farmers Market website: https://www.acfarmersmarkets.org/zucchini-grand-prix
