Adams County Farmers Market Rolls Out Zucchini Grand Prix Soap Box Derby Event

The Adams County Farmers Market plans to roll out its first ever Zucchini Grand Prix, a mini soap box derby-style competition, on Saturday, August 10th starting at 8:00am at the Gettysburg Rec Park. This new event is also intended to be a celebration marking the last day of National Farmers Market Week 2024.

Children 16 and under are invited to put their creativity to the test and build their own ‘zucchini-mobile’ to compete. Various prizes will be awarded, including prizes for the fastest zucchini and a prize for the most creatively decorated zucchini. ACFM is also offering a number of Zucchini Grand Prix ‘scholarships’ for those families who are unable to afford the registration fee.

Registration and car building is scheduled to take place between 8:30am and 10:30am, followed by the racing at 11:00am. Pre-registration is encouraged as spaces are limited. Participants who are interested should visit www.acfarmersmarkets.org/cukes-and-zukes-fest for more information.

ACFM will be unveiling a brand new Zucchini Grand Prix racetrack for this event, designed and constructed by Allison Stewart, ACFM board member and proprietor of Deer Run Farm. “I’m excited to see the track in action,” said Stewart. “Our team at the farm had fun building this track, and I know it’s going to be fun for the kids to race on it.”

Anyone with questions, or anyone interested in volunteering for this event, should contact Reza Djalal at manager@acfarmersmarkets.org.
