The Adams County Farmers Market (ACFM) will host its first-ever Gettysburg Breadfest on Saturday, September 26, 2026, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Gettysburg Rec Park. The event will celebrate bread, cookies, pastries and other baked goods with additional bakery vendors, a tasting ‘passport’ activity, a Community Cookie Contest, activities for children, and prizes.
Among the guest bakers is a familiar face to the farmers market: Megan Doolittle of Hearth & Barrels Bakery. Doolittle was a regular market vendor in the past and will be making a one-day return for the bread-themed event. She will offer a limited menu focused on cramique, a soft brioche associated with northern France and Belgium. Her loaves will be available with Belgian pearl sugar, raisins or chocolate while supplies last.
The market will also be welcoming a new face as well. New vendor M. Antoinettes’s Private Bake House out of Hanover is a woman-owned small business dedicated to crafting artisan breads and pastries, and will be in attendance at the farmers market for the very first time. “I specialize in everything sourdough,” said Christine Tayman, owner of M. Antoinettes’s Private Bake House.
Visitors can also purchase a $5 Breadfest Passport near the Sterner Building while supplies last. Each passport includes a ‘flight’ of four sweet treats, one each from four popular farmers market vendors: CRUMB Sourdough Bakery, Robins Nest Bakery, Sugarlips Bakery, and Victoria’s Casita Bakery. After visiting all four bakers and collecting stamps, passport holders can vote for their favorite treat and even submit their completed passport for a chance to win a $100 cash prize.
Breadfest will also feature the market’s first Community Cookie Contest, where local bakers will be submitting their favorite homemade cookie recipe into a tasting contest. Entrants include contestants ranging from children baking with their moms all the way to experienced bakers with decades of experience and past winners of local competitions and fairs. A panel of four community judges will evaluate the cookies: Chris Lauer, founder of Waldo’s & Company; Simbry Solalinde, an ACFM volunteer and Gettysburg High School Key Club member; Brett Messenger of the Majestic Theater; and Benjamin Posner of Presidents Coffee.
A children’ s activity will be available where kids can try their hand at cupcake decorating, including learning to use a piping bag to create their own designs. The activity is free, with a limit of one cupcake per child, and will be available while supplies last.
A local history display will connect the celebration to the Jennie Wade House Museum, which is marking its 125th anniversary. Jennie Wade was baking bread when she was killed during the Battle of Gettysburg; she is remembered as the battle’s only civilian fatality.
Gettysburg Breadfest takes place during the Adams County Farmers Market’s regular Saturday hours, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Gettysburg Rec Park.
