Adams County hosts virtual Death Café to spark conversations about end-of-life choices

Residents of Adams County and beyond are invited to take part in a unique, free virtual event designed to open up meaningful conversations about living and dying. The Virtual Death Café is held quarterly on the third Thursday of January, April, July, and October in 2025. Each session runs from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., with the next scheduled gathering taking place on July 17.

Unlike workshops with formal lectures or agendas, a Death Café offers an open, group-directed discussion about death and end-of-life topics. Participants, who are often strangers, share reflections and questions in a welcoming, non-judgmental space. Far from being morbid, the conversation is intended to be life-affirming, helping people feel more comfortable discussing what is often a taboo subject. Attendees are encouraged to bring their dinner or a snack and join from the comfort of their own home or office.

The event is sponsored by several organizations committed to promoting advance care planning: Aging Inspired Advance Care Planning Coalition, Got Wishes? Advance Care Planning Coalition, Healthy Adams County End-of-Life Committee, and Your Life Your Wishes Advance Care Planning Task Force of York. Together, these groups support individuals of all ages in thinking through and documenting their end-of-life care preferences, ensuring that treatment decisions align with personal goals and values.

Registration is required to receive the video link to participate. Interested individuals can contact Roberta Geidner at (410) 207-8829 or via email at RGAConsultingServices@outlook.com.

By providing a respectful environment where people can talk openly about death, organizers hope the Death Café will inspire participants to reflect, share, and take steps to communicate their wishes with loved ones. For more information or to ask questions, attendees are encouraged to reach out before the event.
