The Sterilis Needle Disposal Program, a new way to offer safe disposal of needles to community residents, has been established in Adams County, according to an announcement from local program Healthy Adams County.
The program was created as a result of several community organizations and various donations, as well as grant funding. It is the first program in the county and in Pennsylvania to offer safe needle disposal services to residents.

The program reduces the waste by 80% and reduces air pollution and carbon emissions by sterilizing and grinding used needles into harmless waste that can be thrown out in the regular trash, according to a statement from Healthy Adams County.

In order to dispose of any needles safely, residents are asked to bring them in a heavy plastic container that is no larger than 10 quarts. This can include a laundry detergent bottle or sharps container. Residents can then place the container at the Sharps Kiosk Dropoff, located at the Bonneauville Fire Department on 10 Elm Avenue. Staff will then transport the needles to the Sterilis Machine inside the building to dispose of them.
