March 22: Waynesboro shuts out New Oxford, 2-0, in tight matchup
Waynesboro, PA – Waynesboro’s strong pitching and timely hitting secured a 2-0 victory against New Oxford in a well-fought baseball game today. Waynesboro emerged victorious, largely due to the combined efforts of pitchers Mason Gochenour and Seth Dodson.
Gochenour started the game for Waynesboro and maintained a strong presence on the mound. Over six innings, he struck out six batters and walked four. Dodson took over in the seventh inning and managed to keep New Oxford off the scoreboard, notching the win for Gochenour.
On the opposing side, Ethan Diehl started for New Oxford and pitched five innings, striking out five and walking two. Kristian Wolfe took over in the sixth inning and continued the strong pitching, striking out five and walking two as well.
Waynesboro’s offense was led by Ethan Hotchkiss, who went 3-for-4, contributing significantly to the team’s nine total hits. Kolton Haifley stood out for New Oxford, going 2-for-3, but it wasn’t enough to rally the team as they were held to just four hits.
Waynesboro scored their first run in the opening inning and added an insurance run in the seventh, giving them enough of a cushion to secure the win. Both teams had one error in the field.
New Oxford will be looking to bounce back in their next game, as they host William Penn tomorrow at 4:15 p.m. The game was originally scheduled for Friday but has been moved up a day.
