The Gettysburg Warriors Varsity Boys’ Lacrosse Team illuminated the scoreboard ten times as they cruised past the Cedar Cliff Colts on Friday night. Freshman Gavin Nevada got the Warriors on the board early as he scored the first of a team-leading three tallies in the game. After a game-tying goal by Cedar Cliff’s Jaden Heckard, the Warriors rattled off nine unanswered goals. Brody Granger, Sam Dickerson, and Brennen Double each scored their first career high school goals to build a lead. Senior Liam Salmon got hot as he scored two goals and added an assist in the victory. Jackson Sheads led the Warriors with a “five-point” performance as he scored two goals and dished out three assists. Sheads took a perfect pass from Brennen Double and hit the back of the net with his signature behind-the-back shot for his second strike. Sophomore Brody Granger was credited with three assists in the contest as well. A late goal from Cedar Cliff’s Coby Enck rounded out the scoring, but the Warriors celebrated with the 10 – 2 triumph.
The goaltending trio of Gabe Wyant, Jarome Benjamin, and Turner Ramsburg were nearly perfect between the pipes as all three Warriors saw action. Wyant led the team with five saves while Benjamin was credited with four.
The Warriors’ defense controlled the tempo of the game, forcing turnovers and holding Cedar Cliff to eleven shots on goal. Veterans Lucas Ramsburg, Josh Martin, Gabe Schmitz, Finn Keegan, and R J Monn led the way on defense. Schmitz led the team with two forced turnovers and five ground ball wins.
Newcomers Jermain Gondwe, Mason Monn, Nate Rawlings, Jake Snyder, Christian DiCampli, Reece VanDkye, Gavin Hodges, and Miles Carignan all played key roles in the Warriors’ first win of the season.
Head Coach Tyler Powell and Assistant Coach Joseph Valle picked up their first win at the helm of the Gettysburg Boys’ Varsity Lacrosse team.
