Eight seniors were recognized in the Warriors’ final home game of the 2024 season. Though the Warriors played a strong game, they came out on the short end of the score. Still, it was a memorable season.
Every varsity program in sports has a starting point. For the Gettysburg boys’ lacrosse team, it was 2021. This was the year that these graduating seniors were freshmen. The seniors who were recognized on Monday night at Warrior Stadium are truly the pioneers of the game. They were there for the first year of junior varsity lacrosse well as the last three years competing in varsity. They experienced the first win, the first loss, the first goal, and many other firsts as a team. Devin Campbell, Jaceb Dickerson, Jermain Gondwe, Liam Salmon, Jarome Benjamin, Lucas Ramsburg, Miles Carignan, and Gabe Wyant have all made memorable impressions throughout their tenure as Warrior lacrosse players. Wyant hit a milestone that may never be broken in Warrior varsity lacrosse history. In the third quarter of the game, Wyant stopped an impressive career 500th shot as the bench and the home crowd erupted. His teammates stormed the field to celebrate the accomplishment. Wyant plans to be a career firefighter.
Devin Campbell, who has missed playing time due to injury the last two years, never left the team and was student coach while sidelined. Campbell, who played two full years for the program, controlled the subbing and kept the Warriors on task. He will be attending the United States Military Academy at West Point in July as an Exercise Science major.
Jaceb Dickerson, this year’s team’s manager, played three years for Gettysburg. While an injury sidelined him for this season, Dickerson took the role of announcer for Monday’s tilt. Jaceb will be attending the University of Chicago in the fall where he plans to double major in Political Science as well as Economics. He will also play at the university for the Division One football program and hopes to also play club lacrosse while on campus.
Jermaine Gondwe made an impression as he recorded his fourth assist in his career. Gondwe, who was coming off his first career goal a few weeks ago, has vastly improved as an attacker for his squad. He will attend a trade school upon graduation.
In his twenty-first career game, senior Liam Salmon found the back of the net for the fourth time as the crowd celebrated. Liam plans to be an electrician apprentice upon graduation in a few weeks.
Jarome Benjamin had some of the loudest cheers as he turned away five Chambersburg Trojan shots in the second half of the contest. The saves put him at 75 in his career. He plans to work as a corrections officer until he is able to apply to the PA State Trooper Academy.
Senior Lucas Ramsburg electrified the Warriors’ faithful as he put a shot on goal, the third of his career, and vacuumed up his thirty-ninety career ground ball. This anchor at defense will be missed in future years. Ramsburg plans to enter the workforce as a construction worker when he graduates.
Miles Carignan joined the Warriors for the first time as a lacrosse player this season. While the senior was considered a “rookie,” he supplied great balance on defense. Carignan won a career first faceoff in the fourth stanza of the contest. With a game to play, Miles has scooped up six ground balls in his career. Carnignan plans to attend the Pennsylvania College of Technology, studying engineering in the fall.
Brennen Double picked up his seventh assist of the season, which is a varsity record. Jackson Sheads recorded his third hat trick of the season, which is also a Warrior season record. Junior Cole Schumacher kept pace with Sheads as he also scored three times to share the season-high of 23 goals with a game to play.
Some of the most effective hits of the year were delivered Monday. Sophomore Sam Dickerson and Junior R J Monn thwarted their opponents in what will surely make the highlight reel. Finnegan Keenan won six faceoffs while forcing a turnover.
Prior to the game, sophomore Brody Granger sang a beautiful rendition of the National Anthem to start the night.
The last game of the season for our Warriors is Wednesday evening as we travel to Central Dauphin.
