The weather was picture perfect, and the competition was even better as the two teams went “blow for blow” for 48 minutes. The visiting Warriors hit several milestones while tying or breaking varsity records. Although the Warriors were on the short end of the score, the game was the best they played in the 2025 campaign.
Red Land struck first as Aiden McCutchen got the Patriots on the board 1:33 into the opening stanza. Jackson Sheads, looking for his 50th varsity career goal, knotted the score at 1 – 1 as he bounced a shot past Ayoi Chetri with 9:38 left in the 1st quarter. After a goal by Micah Clarke, Sheads scored his second of the game as he took Cole Schumacher’s pass and found the back of the net to get the score even at 2. Schumacher’s assist tied the varsity single-season record at seven with Brennen Double.
Red Land rattled off two goals to open their lead, but Cole Schumacher responded with his 80th career goal. Schumacher became the first Warrior to record 100 points in varsity action. Schumacher, a four-year starter, has several varsity records, including most games played at 61, most assists at 20, most groundballs at 194, and most shots at 385.
The Patriots tried to put the game out of reach, scoring six unanswered goals to extend their lead to 9 – 3 going into the half. The Warriors outscored the Patriots 6 – 2 in the 3rd quarter to keep the game within reach.
Sheads recorded his 5th career hat trick as he scored early in the third to start the Warriors’ comeback. Defenseman Sam Dickerson put his team on his back as he exploded for three goals within a four-minute and 30-second span. Dickerson beat Chetri with 10:31 remaining in the quarter to start his run. Dickerson’s second goal was arguably the most amazing in Warriors’ history as he split defenders, spun in the air, and scored while falling to the grass surface.
After two Red Land goals, Dickerson scored his first career hat trick with 5:44 remaining in the 3rd. Dickerson became the first long-pole defenseman to achieve the feat. Dickerson, who scooped up five groundballs on the night, is within three of hitting 100 in his career.
Down 11 – 7, the Warriors continued to claw away at the deficit. Finn Keenan took a centering pass from Brennen Double and buried the opportunity.
As the 3rd quarter was winding down, Double scored his first goal of the night. Alex Cunningham, who set up the opportunity, joined Double and Schumacher in the record books with his 7th assist in a season.
11 – 9 was as close as the Warriors would get as the Patriots flexed their muscles, as they rattled off three unanswered goals. Double stopped Red Land’s run as he scored his 2nd goal of the game, 10th of his career. Double took a perfect pass from RJ Monn and capitalized. In his 50th career varsity appearance, Monn had a monster night as he picked up a team high seven groundballs while forcing two turnovers.
After Red Land scored to make it 17 – 10, the Warriors made a final run. Keenan, also playing in his 50th career varsity game, worked to make his journal entry come true. With 57 seconds remaining on the clock, Gavin Nevada found an open Keenan on the doorstep. Keenan ripped a shot past Chetri for his 2nd of the game. Keenan would not be denied as he scored 25 seconds later to record his first career hat trick. It was the first time in Gettysburg’s history that three different Warriors scored a hat trick in a single game.
Senior Jake Snyder was brilliant at the circle. He won 12 faceoffs, 2 off the Warriors’ record that he set on April 10th of this year.
Ty Garretson made a mark in the game with a faceoff win, three groundballs, and one forced turnover. Freshman Ethan Cortina contributed with a groundball win.
Defensively, Nate Rawlings, Christina DiCampli, Gavin Hodges, and Josh Martin played the best defense of the season. Rawlings led the way with a forced turnover and scooped up two groundballs. DiCampli and Martin each collected a groundball. Martin took an 80-mile-an-hour shot off his back to stop a Red Land shot from finding the back of the net.
Turner Ramsburg made 15 saves in the contest for the Warriors and went over 100 for the season.
The Warriors finish their season as they celebrate “Senior Night” tomorrow at Warrior Stadium. The JV game will start at 4:30, with the recognition of Seniors to follow. The varsity game will begin at 6 PM.
