Aerosmith has announced they will no longer perform live following permanent vocal damage sustained by lead vocalist Steven Tyler. The iconic rock band, known for hits like “Love in an Elevator” and “Livin’ on the Edge,” shared the news on Friday, canceling the remaining dates of their tour and providing an update on Tyler’s condition.
Tyler injured his vocal cords in September during a performance on the “Peace Out: The Farewell Tour,” leading to bleeding and an initial postponement of shows. Despite months of intensive efforts and top medical care, Tyler’s voice has not fully recovered. The band expressed their heartbreak and the necessity of retiring from touring, emphasizing their bond and the difficult decision made together.
Since forming in 1970, Aerosmith has delivered a string of classic hits powered by Tyler’s distinctive vocals, including “Dream On,” “Walk This Way,” and “Sweet Emotion.” They were early into a 40-date farewell tour when Tyler’s injury occurred.
Aerosmith, a Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee and four-time Grammy-winning band, consists of Steven Tyler, Joe Perry, Brad Whitford, Tom Hamilton, and Joey Kramer. The band expressed deep gratitude to their fans, highlighting the honor of having their music become integral to many lives over the decades.
