Annual library book sale opens today

Book lovers and readers in general will have thousands of reasons to visit Gettysburg beginning today as the Friends of the Adams County Library System kick off their 2026 Summer Book Sale Bonanza.

The three-day fundraiser opens Thursday and continues through Saturday at Redding Auction Services, 1085 Table Rock Road, Gettysburg. Proceeds from the sale will benefit the Adams County Library System.

The sale will be open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. today and Friday, with Saturday’s final day running from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Special shopping opportunities are planned throughout the event.

On Friday, seniors and people with special needs will be admitted early beginning at 8:30 a.m. Friday is also Teachers’ Day, with educators eligible to receive up to 15 free books for classroom use.

Children attending the sale will receive five free books while supplies last.

The biggest bargains will come Saturday during the sale’s popular “Books by the Bag” promotion. Shoppers can fill one bag for $5, and those who purchase two $10 bags will receive a third bag free.

The annual sale offers a wide selection of books while raising money to support library programs, services and collections throughout Adams County.

The Friends of the Adams County Library System sponsors the event each year as one of its largest fundraisers, helping provide financial support for the county’s library branches and their community programming.

All proceeds from the Summer Book Sale Bonanza will benefit the Adams County Library System.
