The Apple Core Band will celebrate a half-century of bringing music to the Upper Adams community with a free 50th anniversary concert on Sunday, June 28, at Biglerville High School.
The concert will begin at 3 p.m. in the Biglerville High School Auditorium, 161 N. Main St., Biglerville. Admission is free, and the public is invited to attend.
The celebration marks the band’s origins in 1976, when musicians from the community bands of Bendersville, Arendtsville, and Biglerville participated in events commemorating the nation’s Bicentennial. After those celebrations concluded, members of the three small-town bands decided to continue performing together, forming what became the Apple Core Band.
Over the past 50 years, the ensemble has entertained audiences throughout the region at concerts, community celebrations, and special events, continuing its mission of sharing the joy of music.
The anniversary concert will feature performances by the current Apple Core Band as well as former members who are invited to return and perform several selections alongside the ensemble. Alumni interested in participating have been encouraged to contact Donna Kime at 717-253-3430 for rehearsal and performance information.
In addition to the music, attendees will have an opportunity to explore the band’s history through a display of photographs and memorabilia documenting five decades of performances and community involvement. “History of the Apple Core Band” booklets will also be available.
The concert is both a celebration of the band’s musical legacy and a tribute to the volunteers and generations of musicians who have kept the organization thriving since America’s Bicentennial.
The free event offers community members an opportunity to honor a local musical tradition that has continued uninterrupted for 50 years while reconnecting former members with friends and audiences who have supported the band throughout its history.
