Arts Council announces spring lineup, memorial event for Chris Gladfelter

The Adams County Arts Council is preparing for a busy spring and early summer season featuring classes, community gatherings and a special memorial celebration honoring longtime executive director Chris Gladfelter.

The schedule includes arts, wellness, culinary, and family programs at the council’s Gettysburg headquarters, giving residents a wide range of ways to connect creatively in the coming weeks.

Among the events is “Remembering Chris Gladfelter,” scheduled for May 31 from 1 to 5 p.m., a memorial celebration of the beloved community leader, whose long service helped shape the arts council into a major cultural force in Adams County. Guests are invited to gather, share memories, and celebrate his lasting impact on the organization and the broader community.

The spring calendar also features several hands-on classes and workshops.

Beginning April 30 and continuing through May 7, participants can learn fiber art techniques in Macrame 101 with instructor Joh Ricci. A new wellness offering, Beginner Yoga and Sound Healing, also begins April 30 and runs through June 4, led by Laci S. and Melissa M.

On May 2, the arts council will host a Bingo fundraiser in the evening, while daytime visitors can take part in Experimental Mixed Media, a workshop led by Sue Marrazzo.

Food lovers can mark their calendars for Celebrate Asparagus on May 6, when Chef Lou Sackett will lead a culinary program centered on seasonal ingredients.

Dance instruction is also part of the lineup. Rachel Smith will teach The Fundamentals of Ballet on Mondays from May 4 through June 8.

Several Mother’s Day weekend programs are planned for May 9, including “Draw Your Mom,” a family-friendly children’s activity led by Becca Riley, as well as Needle Felt Unique Wall Art with Debbie Westmoreland.

The arts council continues to offer programs designed for all ages and experience levels, from beginners trying a new hobby to longtime artists seeking fresh inspiration.

Located in downtown Gettysburg, the Adams County Arts Council has long served as a hub for visual arts, education, performance and community engagement. Seasonal programming often supports both creative enrichment and the organization’s broader mission of cultivating an arts-rich community throughout Adams County.

Because many classes have limited enrollment, early registration is encouraged.
