Awards at HGAC’s BarnArt Show & Sale

Historic Gettysburg Adams County’s 17th Annual BarnArt Show and Sale held its Opening Night on Friday, June 13 at the historic G.A.R. Building at 53 E. Middle Street in Gettysburg.

“Best of Show in Fine Art” went to Paul Flury for “Snuffed Embers”, and second place went to Don Rinehart  for “Eiker Barn”.  “Best of Show in Photography” went to Eric Plump for “Old Gettysburg Road Barn,” with second place going to Susan Swope for “South Mountain Pioneer Barn.”

The BarnArt judge this year was artist Wendy Allen, owner of the Lincoln Into Art gallery in Gettysburg and president of the Lincoln Fellowship. Her work has been featured at the Historical Society of Washington, D.C., alongside Lincoln portraits by Salvador Dali, Robert Rauschenberg, and Norman Rockwell. Allen is also the founder and presenter of the Lincoln Fellowship’s One Hundred Nights of Taps, Gettysburg program, and also serves on the Board of Advisors for The Lincoln Forum.

Opening Night attendees cast their votes for Paul Flury’s “Snuffed Embers” as the People’s Choice Award,” and the “Artists’ Choice Award” was a tie between Mary Jane Schnurer for her painting “Sunset Sheep Barn, and Flury’s  “Snuffed Embers.”

The last day of the BarnArt Show & Sale will be tomorrow, from noon to 4 p.m. The exhibit is free and open to the public. Proceeds from the BarnArt Show sales benefit HGAC’s Barn Preservation Project and Grant Program, which funds grants to Adams County barn owners to make needed repairs.
