GETTYSBURG, Pa. The Gettysburg College baseball team will embark on a full 40-game schedule this season that features a well-rounded non-conference slate to prepare the Bullets for a run through the Centennial Conference in April.
After being limited to just 14 conference games due to pandemic restrictions in 2021, Gettysburg Head Coach John Campo has filled the 2022 slate with familiar and new foes, including a number of games within the friendly confines of Kirchhoff Field. The Bullets play 22 non-conference games before the 18-game CC slate begins in earnest in early April. Eighteen of those games will take place at Kirchhoff Field.

Gettysburg resumes its annual spring trip to Vero Beach, Fla., to open 2022. After missing their spring training trip in 2021, the Bullets will engage in a 10-game schedule from March 6-13. The team has used the southern climate to its advantage in prior years, compiling a 15-4 record over its last 19 games dating back to 2018.
Returning north will see Gettysburg play on the home turf on eight of 10 dates in the final two weeks of March. The Bullets will play Penn State Mont Alto at home on March 15 at 3:30. The Nittany Lions won 25 games and advanced to the USCAA World Series in 2021, but they have yet to beat Gettysburg in seven previous meetings.
Gettysburg will travel to Lebanon Valley College on March 16 before an eight-game home-stand. On March 18-19, the Bullets will welcome back former assistant coach and 2003 alum Nathan Bashaw and his Westfield State University team for three games. The Bullets will host the Owls on March 18 at 3:30 before playing a doubleheader at noon the following day. Westfield State is the lone opponent Gettysburg has never faced on its 2022 schedule.
The Orange and Blue will play five home games during a four-day stretch the following week. Gettysburg will line up against Lancaster Bible College on March 22, Juniata College on March 23, and Hood College on March 25 before closing with a doubleheader against Mount Aloysius College on March 26. The Bullets cap their non-conference slate with a road trip to Albright College on March 28 and a home date with Penn State York one day later.
Gettysburg’s first foray into the conference schedule will see the team head to Allentown, Pa., to face Muhlenberg College in a pair of games on Saturday, April 2, at noon. The Bullets continue the road swing to McDaniel College on April 5 and turn around to host the Green Terror three days later.
Swarthmore College did not compete last spring and draws the Bullets for a doubleheader on April 9 beginning at noon. Gettysburg faces two-time defending CC champion Johns Hopkins University for a pair of games on April 12 and April 15. The Blue Jays went 15-6 and advanced to the Division III College World Series in 2021. The Bullets’ final Saturday road trip sends the team to Haverford, which also did not compete last spring, for a doubleheader on April 16.
Gettysburg’s longest active rivalry will take place on April 19 when Dickinson College visits Kirchhoff Field. The Bullets and Red Devils have met 218 times since the series started in 1881. Gettysburg will make the short trek to Carlisle on April 22.
The final seven days of the regular season will witness the Bullets at home for five games. Gettysburg hosts Washington College and Ursinus College for doubleheaders on April 23 and April 30, while the middle of the week features a pair of contests against Franklin & Marshall College on April 26 and April 29.
The Centennial Conference Championship will begin on Thursday, May 5, and concludes on May 7-8. The double-elimination tournament was not held in either 2020 or 2021. Johns Hopkins claimed last year’s crown by virtue of the regular season record.
Gettysburg was 4-10 in the shortened 2021 campaign. Coach Campo heads into his 36th season at the helm and is the program’s all-time wins leader with 626.
