Mechanicsburg dominated Gettysburg on the Warriors’ field yesterday afternoon, gaining a 6-1 baseball victory.
Mechanicsburg took a quick 1-0 lead, with shortstop Jeff Lougee and second baseman Zach Lochary getting on base early in the first inning. Shawn Karpaitis (CF) hit a double, bringing in Lougee for the first run of the game.

In the second inning, Eli Pratt doubled, and Henry Zercher hit a single, putting them both in scoring position. Dane Schwartz hit a sacrifice fly, bringing in Pratt for the second run of the game. Later in the inning, Cody Fey hit a double, bringing in Zercher and giving Mechanicsburg a lead of 3-0.
In the fourth inning, Kale Clark hit a single, and Landon Mark (LF) hit a double, putting two men on base for Mechanicsburg. Lougee hit a single, bringing in Clark and increasing the Wildcat lead to 4-0.
Gettysburg finally got on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning, with Hunter Gillin smacking a double and later scoring on a sacrifice fly. However, Mechanicsburg quickly responded in the top of the fifth inning with its fifth run of the game. In the top of the sixth, Mechanicsburg continued to increase their lead, with Zach Lochary singling and later scoring on a wild pitch.
Will Hummel (Mechanicsburg’s starting pitcher) had a dominant performance, pitching all seven innings and giving up a run on six hits, with seven strikeouts and no walks.
