A six-run fifth inning was the turning point Tuesday afternoon, as Hershey bested Gettysburg in softball action on the Warriors’ home field.
In the first inning, Gettysburg managed to score a run, taking an early lead. The game remained tight, with neither team scoring in the next three innings. Gettysburg didn’t score again until the seventh inning, plating just one more run.

Hershey’s Grace O’Connor scored a run and had one hit, and Dani Blaze notched one run, one hit, and one RBI. McKinley Ebert, Chloe Maitrejean, and Emma Galvez also contributed with doubles.
On Gettysburg’s side, Kate Keller had a home run and a triple and scored both of her team’s runs. Emmaleigh Gillingham had a double and an RBI, while Abby Boblits contributed a double.
Hershey’s pitchers, Chloe Maitrejean and Ashlee Criss, held Gettysburg’s offense pretty much at bay. Maitrejean pitched four innings, allowing three hits, one run, and striking out two. Criss took over for the remaining three innings, giving up six hits, one run, and striking out two as well.
For Gettysburg, Samantha Carbaugh pitched 4.2 innings, allowing five hits, five runs, and striking out two. Megan Musselman took over for 1.1 innings, giving up one hit and one run. Emily Haines closed the game with a clean inning.
