The Bendersville Fire Department will hold its second blood drive on June 25, 2025, from 1 to 6 p.m.
The goal of this drive is for firefighters to have the opportunity to donate blood to remove cancerous cells and reduce the likelihood of cancer in firefighters while helping the community and others who need to receive blood or blood parts.

In a study completed with 285 firefighters from Fire Rescue Victoria, perfluoroalkyl substances were found in their blood at higher levels than the general public’s blood levels. These substance levels have led to cancer and other health issues. Donating blood reduces the average substance levels by more than 1 mg/mL. The firefighters were able to reduce the substances from their bodies to help reduce the risk of cancer and other health issues.
Donating blood also helps others who need to receive blood; one donation has the potential to help three patients in need. This event is open to everyone: firefighters, their families, and the public community members. Specific eligibility information can be found at https://www.redcrossblood.org/donate-blood/how-to-donate/eligibility-requirements.html.
We are only about 1 month away from our drive! Please share the word with anyone you know who might be interested in participating in the blood drive. We currently have over 30 available appointments. If you would like to participate in donating blood, you can sign up at https://www.redcrossblood.org/give.html/drive-results?zipSponsor=BendersvilleFire.
