Black Sabbath, the legendary pioneers of heavy metal, is set to reunite for one last performance at a charity concert in Birmingham on July 5. The historic event, dubbed Back to the Beginning, will take place at Villa Park and feature the band’s original lineup—Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward—for the first time in two decades.
The one-day festival will showcase dozens of acts inspired by Black Sabbath, including Metallica, Slayer, Pantera, Gojira, and Anthrax. Ozzy Osbourne, whose recent health challenges have limited his ability to tour, will also deliver a brief solo set before joining his bandmates for their final bow.
Organized to raise funds for Cure Parkinson’s, Birmingham Children’s Hospital, and Acorn Children’s Hospice, the concert promises to celebrate heavy metal. Rage Against the Machine’s Tom Morello, serving as musical director, has assembled a “supergroup” featuring icons like Billy Corgan, Slash, and Wolfgang Van Halen to perform classic Sabbath and Osbourne songs.
Black Sabbath’s final show comes full circle, steps away from where the band first rehearsed in 1968. Their last farewell, in 2017, concluded a world tour with a sold-out crowd in Birmingham. With this final performance, Osbourne and his bandmates aim to give fans a fitting send-off.
