Good Night, and Good Luck, the stage adaptation of the acclaimed 2005 film about broadcast legend Edward R. Murrow, is making Broadway history. The play, written by George Clooney and Grant Heslov, stars Clooney in his Broadway debut, grossing a record-setting $3,784,200 last week at the Winter Garden Theatre. That figure tops its previous record of $3.3 million, making it the highest-grossing non-musical play in Broadway history.
This latest box office milestone eclipses even some of Broadway’s biggest musicals. The previous high mark for the Winter Garden Theatre was set in 2022 with the The Music Man revival starring Hugh Jackman, which grossed $3.5 million during a regular eight-performance week.
Good Night, and Good Luck not only leads the box office among plays, but it’s also outpacing many musicals, traditionally Broadway’s top earners. As it continues to draw sell-out audiences and critical praise, the production stands as a rare dramatic triumph in a market dominated by song and dance.
