The popular Texas-based convenience chain Buc-ee’s may be inching closer to a Pennsylvania debut.
Known for its enormous gas stations, sprawling stores, and cult-like following, Buc-ee’s opened its northernmost location yet on June 30 in Mount Crawford, Virginia, just off Interstate 81. A second Virginia location is planned near New Kent.
With Virginia now the 12th state to host the chain, Pennsylvania could be next. Buc-ee’s has not confirmed any official plans, but recent billboards in Lancaster County and New Jersey have stirred speculation. One billboard near mile marker 291 on the Pennsylvania Turnpike—just outside Reading—teased travelers last fall with the possibility of a future location in the Keystone State.
Founded in Texas, Buc-ee’s is often described as a hybrid of Wawa, Walmart, and a roadside barbecue stand. It features dozens of gas pumps, massive restrooms, fresh food options, and retail space that far exceeds traditional convenience stores.
As of July 1, Buc-ee’s operates 53 stores across the South and Midwest, including in Texas, Florida, Georgia, and now Virginia. Its growing presence on the East Coast raises hopes that Pennsylvania could soon join the list.
So far, however, Buc-ee’s corporate has offered no confirmation about opening a store in Pennsylvania or the Delaware Valley. For now, fans will have to settle for speculation—and a few well-placed billboards.
