Bullet women’s and men’s teams will compete in NCAA basketball tournament

Women play host, beginning Friday

Gettysburg will host a first- and second-round regional in the 2025 NCAA Division III women’s basketball tournament beginning on Friday at Bream Gymnasium.

The Bullets (25-2) earned an automatic bid into the field of 64 with its sixth Centennial Conference (CC) title, defeating Johns Hopkins 68-60 in overtime on Sunday in Baltimore. It was the fourth straight conference title for the Orange and Blue.

Gettysburg is making its 12th NCAA tournament appearance and its seventh straight. The Bullets will take on Stevens in Friday’s first-round game at 7 p.m. Western New England will play Tufts in the first game at 4:30 p.m. The winners will meet in Saturday’s second round at 7 p.m.

This will be just the second all-time meeting between Gettysburg and Stevens. The Ducks (19-8) won the MAC Freedom title by a 54-47 margin over DeSales on Saturday. The teams previously met in Gettysburg on Feb. 7, 2022, which the Bullets won, 72-60.

Western New England (24-3) earned an at-large bid after losing in the Conference of New England championship game to Endicott 64-58 on Saturday, while Tufts (15-10) earned an at-large bid after losing to Trinity (Conn.) in the quarterfinals of the NESCAC tournament.

Junior Alayna Arnolie, the CC tournament’s most outstanding player, leads Gettysburg in scoring at 15.6 points per game, while senior Shinya Lee is second in scoring (10.1 ppg) and leads the team in rebounding (9.8 RPG). Arnolie tops the team with 48 3-pointers and 69 steals while adding 63 assists and 3.5 rebounds per game.

Lee leads the team in blocked shots with 78 and is second on the team in steals with 39. She also has 21 assists while shooting 52.2 percent from the floor.

Junior AB Holsinger leads the team with 90 assists, scoring 7.3 points per game. She also has 35 steals and 24 3-pointers.

Men will travel to Wesleyan

Gettysburg will travel to Wesleyan University in Middletown, Conn., for the 2025 NCAA Division III men’s basketball first and second rounds, beginning on Friday.

The Bullets (20-7) earned an at-large bid into the field after falling in the Centennial Conference semifinals on Friday at Johns Hopkins. Gettysburg is one of 21 at-large teams in the field of 64.

Gettysburg is making its sixth NCAA tournament appearance and its first since 2009. The Bullets will take on Chatham in Friday’s first-round game at 4:30 p.m. The host Cardinals will play Delaware Valley in the second game at 7 p.m. The winners will meet in Saturday’s second round at 7 p.m.

This will be just the second all-time meeting between Gettysburg and Chatham. The Cougars (23-4) won the Presidents Athletic Conference title by an 81-69 margin over Washington & Jefferson on Saturday. The teams previously met on Dec. 20, 2015, which the Bullets won, 76-65.

Wesleyan (26-1), ranked first in the latest D3hoops.com poll, fell to Trinity (Conn.) in the NESCAC championship 75-67 on Sunday, while Delaware Valley (15-12) claimed the MAC Freedom title 64-63 over Stevens on Saturday.

Senior Carl Schaller leads Gettysburg in scoring at 16.3 points per game. He also leads the team with 78 assists while adding 35 steals and 52 3-pointers. Senior Jordan Stafford and junior Nate Williams also average double figures. Stafford is averaging 16.1 ppg with 73 assists, 26 steals, and 4.9 rebounds per game. He is shooting 56.7 percent from the floor. Williams is averaging 13.4 ppg with 41 assists, 26 steals, and 47 triples.

Sophomore Aidan Mess leads the team in rebounding at 6.9 rebounds per game and blocked shots with 52. He is adding 7.0 points per game.
