Gettysburg scored twice in the game’s first nine minutes to set the tone early in a 4-0 win over Washington (Md.), clinching not only a berth in next week’s men’s soccer Centennial Conference tournament but also earning a first-round bye.
Diallo Cowan led the Bullets with a goal and an assist.
Sergio Neto played a ball out from the wing that James Blake ran onto and fired home for a 1-0 lead just 4:35 into the game. Just over four minutes later, Cowan had a saved shot come right to him and he blasted it into the back of the net for a 2-0 lead.
Cowan then found Max Williams from the left endline in the 61st minute. Finn Hoefer left-footed a Josue De Leon Sabala on the post in the 84th minute for the final margin.
Sean Kennedy made four saves for the shutout.
Washington finished with a 16-14 edge in shots and a 9-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Gettysburg (10-5-3, 4-2-3 CC) will now host one of the two semifinals of the tournament on Friday. Game time will announced on Monday.
