Hopkins used six plays to move the ball inside the Gettysburg 10 on its opening drive but it stalled there and the Blue Jays had to settle for a 27-yard Brad Paxton field goal and 3-0 lead with 12:21 showing. The Blue Jays defense forced a three-and-out before the offense paid off a 6-play, 65-yard drive with an Andrew Rich 12-yard touchdown up the middle for the running back’s first of two scores on the night with 8:05 remaining.

The second quarter started with a 20-yard James Rinello-to-PJ Scales touchdown and a 17-0 lead. Johns Hopkins later added a 38-yard Geoff Schroeder catch-and-run screen pass on a fourth-and-5 to make it 24-0 with 4:45 to play in the opening half. Paxton added a 20-yard field goal as the half expired to make it 27-0 at the break.

The third featured long drives by both teams. Gettysburg twice converted a fourth-and-1 on the opening march – the second of which Rocco Abdinoor pulled on a read option and took around the left side 20 yards to make it 27-7 with 9:01 to play. The Blue Jays responded to the 12-play march with a nine-play drive of their own, consuming 5:09 before Paxton had to hit a 30-yarder for his third field goal of the night with 3:45 to play.

Johns Hopkins added three rushing touchdowns in the fourth quarter. Rich scored from 12 yards out with 10:37 to play, and then Ty Pugliano scored from one yard out and 24 with 6:47 and 1:51, respectively.

For Gettysburg, Brian Smith led the Bullets with his first career double-digit tackle game, recording 12 on the night. Rocco Abdinoor had the lone score of the night on a 20-yard run.

Gettysburg returns to action at Muhlenberg on Saturday, Oct. 19. Game time is 12 p.m.
