de>GETTYSBURG, Pa. – There are different styles of leadership that one can use to influence those around them. Members of the Gettysburg College softball program have an opportunity to be a part of a team-oriented leadership approach as soon as they arrive on campus.

Coaches have a choice in which leadership style they want to use that best fits the needs of the team environment. For Head Coach Annette Hunt-Shepherd, she hasn’t done the captain approach since her second season at Gettysburg. Instead, she started a unity council as a way for each class to be a part of the leadership process. The student-athletes in each class get to vote within who will represent them for the year. The team involvement builds trust, communication, and encourages others to work together.

“It’s a necessary component that every voice matters on our team,” said Hunt-Shepherd. “Fulfilling that piece of taking care of everyone and lifting each other up.”

This season there are five members of the unity council. Those members are listed below along with some more details on each one.
