Butler Township breaks ground on new municipal complex

The Butler Township Board of Supervisors broke ground today on a new 8,400 square foot municipal complex at 344 Arendtsville Road. The new complex will house township administration offices, public meeting spaces, and a covered maintenance garage. It will replace the current municipal office on Table Rock Road and the current maintenance building. The new facility will be constructed on 3-acres of township-owned land.

“This new municipal building reflects years of careful planning and delivers the most cost- effective solution for our community’s needs,” said Ed Wilkinson, Chair of the Township Board of Supervisors. “A larger space to accommodate the public, as well as having all municipal functions under one roof, will make it easier for residents to access services and interact with their local government. It’s a big step forward for our community.”

The project is made possible in part by a $1 million Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program grant and a $250,000 Statewide Local Share Account grant. State Representative Torren Ecker and State Senator Doug Mastriano were instrumental in securing the funding for the township, and both took part in the groundbreaking ceremony.

“It is easy to support projects like this that benefit our local community,” said State Representative Torren Ecker. “I am excited to see the new facility when it is completed. It will be a great resource for township residents.”

Township officials have deliberated on new municipal offices since 2018, due to limited space in the existing administration building. The new building will provide enough room to accommodate public meetings and functions, and it could eventually serve as a community emergency operations center. The layout of the new complex also enables township maintenance functions to be co-located with the rest of the township’s services. Presently, the municipal offices and the maintenance shed are on opposite ends of the township. The current maintenance shed will be demolished as part of the project, and the new complex will be built in its place.

“This project is all about making township services easier to access while saving residents money,” said Wilkinson. In addition to a more efficient provision of services, the new facility will give township maintenance staff the ability to work on equipment during the winter months, instead of sending it out for repair. This will help provide substantial savings on maintenance costs.

“We’ve been working on this initiative for years, and thanks to the support of Representative Ecker and Senator Mastriano, we are finally making it a reality,” said Wilkinson. “We can’t thank them enough for their support.”

“I’m happy to be part of this project and thrilled that it is finally underway,” said State Senator Doug Mastriano. “I’m looking forward to seeing the new facility.”

The Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP) is a Commonwealth grant program administered by the Pennsylvania Office of the Budget for the design, acquisition, and construction of regional economic, cultural, civic, recreational, and historical improvement projects. The Statewide Local Share Account program is a state grant program administered by the Commonwealth Financing Authority for projects in the public interest.
