Clear It Out For A Cause recycling and donation event planned in Mount Joy Township

Residents looking to clean out garages, basements and closets while helping local families will have an opportunity to do both during the upcoming “Clear It Out For A Cause” community recycling and donation event in Adams County.

The event is scheduled for Saturday, May 30, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Mount Joy Township municipal building, located at 902 Hoffman Home Road near Gettysburg.

The event is open to everyone, even those who do not live in Mount Joy Township.

The drive will collect recyclable materials and gently used household items, with donations remaining local to help support area residents in need. Organizers describe the event as an effort to promote sustainability, recycling, and community outreach at the same time.

Among the accepted items are electronics, televisions, computers, clothing, shoes, coats, housewares, furniture, cardboard, paper, magazines, metal, glass, working appliances, videotapes, DVDs, CDs, linens, rugs, and musical instruments.

Electronics, including both working and non-working items, will also be accepted.

Items that will not be accepted include air conditioners, refrigerators, hazardous chemicals, infant furniture, lawn mowers, mattresses, small engines, tanks or cylinders, tires and paint.

The event is being held in partnership with several organizations, including Goodwill Keystone, Reworld, and Adams Rescue Mission.

Volunteers will be available throughout the event to help unload donations from vehicles, and organizers noted the collection will take place rain or shine.

Donation receipts will also be available upon request for those contributing items.
