Community to celebrate tourism at Gettysburg Tour Center grand opening

Local residents are invited to celebrate National Travel and Tourism Week with free bus rides, food, and musical entertainment at the grand opening of the Gettysburg Tour Center on Sunday, May 19.

Destination Gettysburg and Gettysburg Tours Inc. are joining together for a Community Day event to celebrate the positive impact of the Adams County tourism industry. National Travel and Tourism Week highlights the industry’s critical role in powering the economy and improving the quality of life throughout the community.

“For decades, tourism has been vital to the economic success of Adams County,” Destination Gettysburg President and CEO Karl Pietrzak said. “This Community Day event gives us a chance to come together and have fun as we recognize the value of tourism.”

Community Day will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Gettysburg Tour Center, 778 Baltimore St., Gettysburg. Attendees can enjoy 30- to 40-minute downtown bus rides and receive discount coupons to return for a full-length guided bus tour. A complimentary picnic lunch will include cake and grilled hot dogs.

Every year, National Travel and Tourism Week celebrations take place across the country to shine a spotlight on the impact of this industry. At the local level, the Adams County tourism industry was responsible for more than $736 million in visitor spending, $76 million in tax revenue, and nearly 4,900 jobs in 2022.

“We invested in the new Gettysburg Tour Center because we believe in the future of Adams County tourism,” Gettysburg Tours Inc. President Max Felty said. “We hope local residents will join us as we celebrate our grand opening in conjunction with National Travel and Tourism Week.”

Destination Gettysburg, the official destination marketing organization of Adams County, Pa., promotes Gettysburg and Adams County as a premier travel destination to benefit and enhance our community by sharing history and creating new experiences.
