Constable Josh Fitting announces candidacy for Adams County Sheriff

Joshua Fitting, a dedicated law enforcement and military professional as well as a longtime resident of Adams County, has officially announced his candidacy for Sheriff of Adams County. Fitting, currently serving as a full-time Pennsylvania State Constable, brings strong leadership and a wealth of experience in public safety to the race.

With over 17 years of combined military and civilian service, Fitting has worked extensively in both Adams and Cumberland counties, handling judicial services, warrant executions, courtroom security, prisoner transport, and assisting first responders. In addition to his role as a constable, he holds the rank of Sergeant First Class (E-7 NCO) in the U.S. Army Reserve, where he specializes in Emergency Preparedness. As Pennsylvania’s Emergency Preparedness Liaison Officer, Fitting has led teams to ensure communities are well-equipped to handle crises, with public safety as a top priority. His deep experience in law enforcement and military leadership positions him as a candidate ready to serve and protect Adams County with unwavering dedication.

“I am running for Sheriff to make a meaningful impact on our community,” Fitting stated. “As a constable and military noncommissioned officer, I’ve seen the challenges we face in ensuring public safety. If elected, I will focus on strengthening relationships between local and state law enforcement agencies, improving communication, and addressing issues within the Sheriff’s Office. Together, we can create a safer environment for all Adams County residents.”

Fitting’s commitment to service goes beyond law enforcement. He has actively participated in community initiatives, such as supporting drug take-back programs with the Biglerville Police Department since 2021 and working with the Adams County Youth Coalition for the past three years.

As part of his vision for the Sheriff’s Office, Fitting is dedicated to fostering greater collaboration with local police departments, offering competitive salaries to attract and retain qualified recruits, and raising operational standards within the department. He also emphasizes the importance of affordable training, noting, “I’ve personally completed countless hours of training to better equip myself for the ever-changing demands of law enforcement—all at no cost to taxpayers. My goal is to expand training opportunities for our officers without burdening Adams County residents.”

Fitting, who resides in Gardners with his wife Jessica and their son, is committed to running an organized campaign focused on making Adams County the safest county in Pennsylvania. At the time of this announcement, Fitting is the only candidate to have officially filed to run for Sheriff.
