These growing case counts would seem to make it unlikely that Adams County will be allowed to reopen. Governor Wolf has announced that only counties where the average number of new cases over a two-week period is less than 50 would be considered for lifting the stay-at-home orders.
Gettysburg Wellspan Hospital President Jane Hyde said today the hospital is caring for 6 coronavirus patients. Three of these are confirmed coronavirus-positive and three are suspected coronavirus but are awaiting test results.
“We’ve dealt with more than 100 patients,” said Hyde. “We’ve tested over 500 individuals in the open-air tent.”
Noting overall admissions have fallen in the hospital, Hyde said “We are concerned that people may be delaying care. We are very comfortable that we have created a safe environment. People do not need to be afraid of the coronavirus when they visit the hospital.”
Hyde said the turnaround time for coronavirus tests has been improved to 24 hours for inpatients and less than two days for others.
Hyde reminded residents that Wellspan does not charge any out of pocket costs for coronavirus or coronavirus-related issues.
Hyde said 15,000 face masks have been collected across the system. “Thanks to those who have contributed,” said Hyde.
Hyde said the hospital was exploring when elective outpatient surgery might begin again.
