Cows, cozies, and country

by Jess Shelleman

It’s that time of year to start thinking of winter. At Adams County Library System, we’ve been busy planning our programs for the cold winter months, something hard to do when October has been so warm and sunny. Sometimes, it’s hard to come up with new and exciting ideas, coming up with programs that our patrons will enjoy, and finding ideas that are fun and educational.

While putting the Littlestown Library winter schedule together, I tried to focus on three different areas: cows, cozies, and country. There are many programs that don’t fall into these categories, but it was a good jumping-off point. So, a sneak peek of our winter programs…

COWS – Yes, a rather odd subject to focus on, but this year, Littlestown Library has adopted a cow! Really! Through an organization called Discover Dairy, we have adopted a calf, virtually. While the cow is real, we unfortunately won’t be able to host the cow at the library. Throughout the year, we’ll receive updates, photos, and all sorts of other information on our cow. This week, we were told that our Host Farm is Kurtland Farms in Berks County, PA, but we won’t find out who our calf is until next week. Keep an eye out as we watch our cow grow this year.

Sneak peek of our cow programs: Marvelous Milk! and Cow Corner Storytime.

COZIES – Who doesn’t like to be cozy in winter? It’s the best time of year to light candles, bundle up in a blanket, and drink hot chocolate. We had to include a few cozy programs this winter.

Sneak peek at our cozy programs: Cryptid Creations, Cozy Candles, Diy Tea Cozy, Winter Memories Writing Workshop, Cozy Reads, and Craft Your Cocoa.

COUNTRY – In case you haven’t heard, next year is America’s 250th birthday! In honor of this monumental celebration, I’m planning on lots of programs throughout the year to commemorate America250.

Sneak peak at country programs: Little Founders Storytime and Centuries of Science: STEM Inspired by African American Inventors.

Make sure to keep an eye out for these, and all of the programs around Adams County. We’ll see you at the library!
