Department of Aging to introduce PA CareKit at Gettysburg Library event

The Pennsylvania Department of Aging will host a statewide premiere event for its new PA CareKit on Wednesday, June 17, at the Gettysburg Library.

The event will begin at 2 p.m. at the library, located at 140 Baltimore St. in Gettysburg, and is aimed at helping caregivers access tools, information and support resources.

According to the Department of Aging, the PA CareKit is part of Aging Our Way, PA — the state’s 10-year strategic plan focused on improving services and support systems for older adults across Pennsylvania. Officials describe the CareKit as a dynamic, interactive and comprehensive “caregiver toolkit” designed to help people navigate the challenges of caregiving while planning ahead and finding practical solutions.

The toolkit is intended to support caregivers throughout their entire caregiving journey, whether they are assisting aging parents, spouses, relatives or friends.

State officials say the PA CareKit will provide educational materials, planning resources and guidance intended to help caregivers better understand available services and manage the demands often associated with caregiving responsibilities.

The June 17 event in Gettysburg is part of the statewide rollout of the program and will introduce residents to the new collection of caregiving resources. Organizers say the event will also provide an opportunity for caregivers to learn more about available support systems and connect with others facing similar responsibilities.

Pennsylvania’s Aging Our Way, PA initiative was launched as a long-term effort to strengthen the infrastructure and services supporting older adults as the state’s population continues to age. The Department of Aging says caregiving support has become an increasingly important issue as more families take on responsibilities related to long-term care and aging in place.

Registration for the event is requested via an online form provided by the Department of Aging.
