As a lead-up to the upcoming holiday season in Gettysburg, Destination Gettysburg has announced plans to host a holiday decorating contest. “Gett Merry & Bright” will inspire businesses and residents in the Borough of Gettysburg to get into the holiday spirit.
Participants are encouraged to adorn the exterior of their properties with traditional, classic, or vintage decorations. Entries will be divided into large and small businesses, as well as large and small residences. Winners in each category will win $250.

“Visiting Gettysburg during the holiday season is like walking into a movie,” said Destination Gettysburg President and CEO Karl Pietrzak. “Holiday events, live entertainment, and now the production of ‘A Gettysburg Christmas’ movie have snowballed into a truly special holiday experience. We hope to build on that momentum by inspiring the community to create a dazzling display that locals and visitors alike can enjoy.”
The deadline to register is Nov. 27. Interested businesses and residents can register at DestinationGettysburg.com/lights. All decorations should be family-friendly and appropriate for all ages.
Judging will occur randomly during the contest period, which runs from Dec. 1 through Jan. 1. Winners will be announced in the first week of January 2024.
Once the entries are received, Destination Gettysburg will create a digital map of the participating locations for residents and visitors to see the lights for themselves. The holiday lights trail will be available on “Trek Out Gettysburg” through the WishTrip mobile app.
Main Street Gettysburg will present a Bright Star Award to two business participants, who will be awarded complimentary merchant sponsorships for next year’s Gettysburg Christmas Festival.
