Dickinson scored 34 straight points to take a 34-7 lead and ultimately defeat Gettysburg, 34-14, Saturday afternoon in Carlisle.
After an exchange of punts early on, Gettysburg put together a 10-play drive for the game’s first score. Michael Zrelak broke off a 42-yard run off the left end to set up first-and-goal at the Dickinson 5. Matt O’Connor then hit Rocco Abdinoor on consecutive pass plays, including the quarterback’s first receiving touchdown from four yards out for a 7-0 lead with eight seconds to play in the opening quarter.
A 40-yard Diante Ball run on the first play of the ensuing Red Devil drive set up a Kieran O’Neill 36-yard field goal to make it a 7-3 game with 13:28 to play in the second quarter. Back-to-back big runs off the right side after an interception set Dickinson up at the Gettysburg 14. Two plays later, Ben Klassen found Frederick Fjeldseth in the middle of the end zone to put the hosts in front 10-7 with 7:50 showing. Out of the two-minute timeout, Klassen paid off an eight-play drive with a 10-yard touchdown pass to Bobby Markey for a 17-7 lead. O’Neill tacked on a 42-yard field goal as the half ended for a 20-7 lead.
Off a second interception, Dickinson went 62 yards down the field on just six plays, ending with a one-yard touchdown run by Dane Sorensen with 9:08 on the clock. After a missed field goal, Sorensen ripped off a 42-yard run, and three plays later, Klassen found Markey for a 20-yard touchdown and a 34-7 lead with 2:22 showing in the third quarter.
Zrelak capped a 14-play drive with a three-yard touchdown run on fourth down to set the final margin with 2:23 to play.
Abdinoor completed 12 of 25 passes for 103 yards. He also ran the ball 12 times for 78 yards and caught two passes for five yards and the touchdown.
Michael Zrelak led the Bullets with 81 yards rushing on 13 carries and a touchdown. He also caught a 14-yard pass.
Dane Sorensen led the Red Devils with 112 yards rushing on 13 carries with a touchdown. Bobby Markey made eight catches for 112 yards and two scores.
Gettysburg returns to action at Ursinus on Saturday. Game time is 1 p.m.
