Disney and DirecTV Reach Deal to Restore Channels After Blackout

After nearly two weeks of blackout, Disney and DirecTV have reached a preliminary agreement, restoring popular channels like ESPN, ABC, FX, and Disney Channel to DirecTV’s lineup. The deal, announced on Saturday, Sept. 14, ensures that DirecTV customers will once again have access to Disney’s entertainment, sports, and news networks, including owned ABC stations, ESPN, Freeform, FX, and National Geographic.

The agreement comes just in time for a busy weekend of programming, including a full slate of college football on ABC and ESPN and the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards, which aired on Sunday night, Sept. 15, on ABC.

The dispute, which led to the blackout, left millions of DirecTV subscribers without access to Disney’s channels, frustrating sports fans and TV viewers alike. With the new deal in place, both companies can avoid further disruption while continuing to deliver Disney’s content to DirecTV subscribers.

Further details of the agreement have not been disclosed.
