Eagles-Cowboys Will Kick Off NFL Season

The 2025 NFL season will start with fireworks as the reigning Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles host the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday night, September 4. The nationally televised opener on NBC marks the first Week 1 clash between these NFC East rivals in 25 years.

Philadelphia last faced Dallas in a season opener back in 2000, a lopsided Eagles win under then-head coach Andy Reid. This time, the stakes are just as high, and the dynamics vastly different. The Cowboys enter Lincoln Financial Field under new leadership, with Brian Schottenheimer making his regular-season debut as head coach. He is tasked with reversing a recent trend: Dallas dropped both games to Philadelphia last season.

As always, the NFL reserves its opening night spotlight for marquee matchups, and this one delivers. It’s only the fourth time since 2002 that the league’s Thursday night curtain-raiser features division rivals, and for good reason. The Eagles and Cowboys bring one of football’s fiercest rivalries to the prime-time stage.
