Eighth Annual Longest Day Event Is Thursday

The Village at Gettysburg, a SpiriTrust Lutheran® community, will welcome residents, their families, and local supporters to the eighth-annual Longest Day Walk on Thursday. Held on the longest day of the year from sunrise to sunset, the event aimed to honor those affected by Alzheimer’s disease and the relentless dedication of their caregivers.

Starting at 6:00 a.m. and concluding at 6:00 p.m., participants will gather at the Village’s three-quarter-mile Hope Trail to walk in solidarity with millions who face the daily challenges of Alzheimer’s, the most prevalent form of dementia. SpiriTrust Lutheran®’s goal for continuous walking throughout the 12-hour event symbolized the constant care required by those suffering from the disease.

Registration is open throughout the day under the big tree at the main entrance of the walking trail, where participants can also make donations. All contributions are forwarded to the Alzheimer’s Association, which supports its mission to advance care, support, and research efforts.

Participants are reminded to bring their own water bottles, emphasizing the importance of staying hydrated during the physical activity.

Donations are not necessary to participate but will be graciously accepted at the registration table or by the receptionist in the main building. Please make checks payable to the Alzheimer’s Association. If you would like to make a donation online, please contact Jess Sheahan, director of life enrichment, at 717.334.6204, ext. 40307.
