Permanent repairs to the Emmitsburg Road (Route 3001) bridge over Route 15 began Monday, August 4, in Freedom Township, Adams County, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT). The bridge, located near the Bus 15/Steinwehr Avenue Exit just south of Gettysburg, will remain closed for about a month, with reopening scheduled on or before Friday, September 5, weather permitting.
The closure affects traffic traveling over both the northbound and southbound lanes of Route 15. A signed detour has been established, directing motorists along Bullfrog Road, Mason Dixon Road, Barlow Road, Chapel Road, Ridge Road, and Marsh Creek Road.
During the repair period, drivers on Route 15 northbound may encounter intermittent single-lane closures during daylight hours. PennDOT urges drivers to be alert and exercise caution while traveling through the construction zone.
New Enterprise Stone and Lime Co., Inc., based in New Enterprise, PA, is the contractor overseeing the bridge repair project.
