Farm Vitality Grants Avaiable

The Shapiro Administration, through Agriculture Secretary Russell Redding, has opened applications for $500,000 in Farm Vitality Planning Grants as part of the PA Farm Bill initiatives. These grants, supported by the 2023-24 state budget, aim to assist Pennsylvania farmers in strategic business planning for expansion, diversification, or ownership transition.

Governor Josh Shapiro, advocating for the continued support of Pennsylvania agriculture, has included further funding for these grants in the proposed 2024-25 budget. The budget focuses on economic development, job creation, and agricultural innovation.

The Farm Vitality Grants, part of the historic PA Farm Bill since 2019, have already allocated over $2.2 million towards enhancing the productivity and sustainability of 316 farms statewide. Eligible farmers can receive up to $7,500, covering 75% of project planning costs.

Applications are available online and will be accepted until the allocated funds are fully utilized. These grants complement other PA Farm Bill funding programs aimed at supporting the next generation of farmers and the ongoing growth of the agricultural sector in Pennsylvania.

The proposed 2024-25 budget by Governor Shapiro further outlines significant investments in agriculture, including $10.3 million for innovation, $5.6 million for Dairy Margin Coverage Protections, and additional funds for vital agricultural support services, highlighting the administration’s commitment to sustaining Pennsylvania’s legacy as a leader in American agriculture.
