Art lovers are invited to celebrate the creative spirit of Gettysburg during the Adams County Arts Council’s First Friday Opening Reception on Friday, May 2, from 5 to 7 p.m. at 125 South Washington Street.
This month’s exhibition will highlight two compelling shows: Space & Time by Bruce Walsh in the Reception Hall and A Palette of Places by Wanda Dehan in the Gallery. Both artists bring unique life experiences and perspectives to their work, offering visitors a rich visual and emotional journey.
Walsh, originally from a farm in central Illinois, presents a body of work shaped by decades of hands-on labor and personal perseverance. A self-taught painter and sculptor, Walsh turned to art in his late twenties after years working in the welding trade. His pieces in Space & Time reflect a deep sense of resilience and exploration, encouraging viewers to consider the power of persistence in the face of adversity.
In the Gallery, Dehan’s A Palette of Places invites guests into a world of serene landscapes and vibrant scenes from both home and abroad. A former legislative attorney, Dehan now devotes her energy to creating soft pastel paintings that capture the beauty and light of the natural world. Her works are inspired by the rolling fields of Gettysburg as well as her travels, translating fleeting moments into lasting impressions.
The First Friday reception is free and open to the public. Guests will have the opportunity to meet the artists, enjoy light refreshments, and learn more about the Arts Council’s ongoing programs and classes. The evening promises an inspiring celebration of creativity, community, and the power of artistic expression.
