Flight 93 families to share stories at special Gettysburg event

Family members of the 40 passengers and crew members who died aboard United Airlines Flight 93 will gather in Gettysburg next month for a special evening of remembrance marking the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

The program will be held Saturday, Sept. 12, one day after the anniversary, and will feature family members sharing personal stories and memories of their loved ones and reflecting on the courage displayed aboard Flight 93.

The evening will also include a special screening of director Paul Greengrass’ acclaimed 2006 film “United 93,” along with remarks from cast members and others involved in bringing the story to the screen.

Flight 93 was traveling from Newark, New Jersey, to San Francisco on Sept. 11, 2001, when it was hijacked as part of the coordinated terrorist attacks that also targeted New York City and Washington, D.C. Passengers and crew members fought back against the hijackers, and the plane crashed in a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania, killing all 40 passengers and crew members aboard, along with the four hijackers.

The Gettysburg program is a featured event of the Gettysburg Film Festival and a collaboration between Gettysburg History and the Friends of Flight 93 National Memorial.

Proceeds will benefit Gettysburg History and the Friends of Flight 93 National Memorial, supporting their work to preserve and share the stories of the Flight 93 passengers and crew.

Tickets are $25 and are available at: https://gettysburghistory.org/upcoming-programs-events/
