GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Bullets Teams Challenge turned in a record-breaking performance to support Gettysburg College athletics, totaling over $250,000 from nearly 1,500 donors during a 36-hour window from Nov. 30 to Dec. 1.

The Bullets Teams Challenge is Gettysburg’s largest fundraising effort in support of the intercollegiate varsity athletic program. This year the goal was to reach $200,000 and the Bullet faithful were out in force with 1,499 donors gifting $251,950 before the deadline Wednesday night. Those totals topped last year’s event which featured over 1,200 total gifts totaling $173,000.

 

“We cannot thank everyone enough for the overwhelming amount of support towards the 2021 Bullets Teams Challenge,” said Nick Poehler, Director of the Orange & Blue Club. “It truly was very inspiring to see all the coaches, student-athletes, athletics staff and college advancement come together and do great work for Gettysburg College. To be honest I’m still a bit speechless and so proud of our success. We have an amazing group of alumni, family and friends”

 

As in past years, the teams that featured the highest donor participation received additional financial prizes. The volleyball team aced the competition for the second year in a row, more than doubling its potential donor base at 216 percent. Softball finished in second place with 183 percent, while also grabbing the award for most improved after increasing its donor participation by 126 percent from 2020.

 

In total, seven teams reached or surpassed their donor goals including volleyball, softball, women’s soccer (168 percent), women’s lacrosse (135), men’s basketball (115), men’s soccer (104), and men’s golf (100).

 

The women’s lacrosse team featured the most donations with 148, while men’s soccer, football, and women’s soccer all totaled over 100 gifts this year. In terms of total amount raised, men’s lacrosse was one of five programs to raise more than $23,000, topping the list with $31,167.

 

The funds raised as a result of the challenge will support a number of budgetary needs for the athletic programs, including purchasing new uniforms, upgrading equipment, enhancing facilities, and securing adequate travel options to and from competitions. The funds raised during the Bullets Teams Challenge ensure student-athletes can be leaders on the field, while attaining a holistic education and improved well-being off the field.
