The Gleaning Project, South Central Pennsylvania’s collaborative, nonprofit effort to reduce food loss on local farms, is sponsoring its 4th Annual Penny Per Pound Glean-A-Mania Fundraiser.
Individuals and organizations are asked to commit to donating one or more pennies for each pound of food the project is able to glean between August 8 and 14, 2020.
In 2019 the project raised 87 pennies per pound gleaned but hopes to get donations of 100 pennies per pound this year.
The gleaning project provides food to families across the county, and is particularly important during the current food crisis caused by the pandemic.
The program gleans an average of 260,000 pounds of produce each year.
