Fourth of July weekend forecast: Heat, storms, and possible tropical trouble

The Fourth of July holiday weekend will bring a classic mix of summer weather across the U.S., featuring heat, humidity, and storms that could disrupt outdoor plans.

In the Northeast, conditions look favorable. High pressure is expected to keep areas from Boston to Washington, D.C., mostly dry through Sunday, allowing fireworks shows and beach trips to proceed uninterrupted. Temperatures will climb steadily, with highs reaching the upper 80s and low 90s by Sunday.

The South faces more unsettled weather. Showers and storms are expected in Florida, southeast Georgia, and the eastern Carolinas, linked to a disturbance that could develop into a tropical depression off the coast. Rip currents may also pose a hazard for beachgoers. Elsewhere in the region, heat and humidity will dominate, with highs in the 90s from Texas to Tennessee.

Across the Plains and Midwest, a storm system will trigger scattered storms from the Dakotas to Texas on July Fourth. Some could linger into the evening, threatening fireworks plans. Storm chances will continue Saturday from the Great Lakes through Kansas and Oklahoma before tapering off Sunday. Temperatures will remain hot and humid, generally in the upper 80s and 90s.

The West will see fewer disruptions. The northern Rockies could experience storms on Friday and Saturday, and parts of Colorado and Wyoming may see scattered showers throughout the weekend. The Southwest will stay characteristically hot, with triple-digit highs in the deserts.
