Friday Night and Beyond: Exciting Events at the Majestic Theater in Gettysburg

Looking for Friday night plans? We have you covered!

February 3 at 7:30 pm marks a special event with the Martha Graham Dance Company, the oldest contemporary dance company in the United States. Founded in a small Manhattan studio in 1926 by Martha Graham, this dual centennial celebration honors 100 years of groundbreaking dance. “We the People,” which premiered in February 2024, will be featured. This piece reflects 21st-century Americana through dance, supported by a new score by Rhiannon Giddens arranged by Gabe Witcher, capturing the historic sound of American folk music.

Looking ahead, on Friday, February 6, at 8 PM, the Majestic welcomes renowned pianist Marc-Andre Hamelin who will perform alongside the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra in a concert featuring Beethoven, Liszt, and Schubert. Praised by the New York Times for his “commanding technique” combined with “warmth and affection,” Hamelin will perform the emotionally demanding Wanderer Fantasy in a newly commissioned orchestration updating Liszt’s concerto version. His own compositions, such as the rich counterpoint Passacaglia, will also be featured, alongside Schubert’s final sonata, allowing the orchestra to bring out hidden sounds and emotions. This concert is presented in partnership with the Sunderman Conservatory of Music and funded in part by the Sunderman Chamber Music Foundation. Tickets are free for Gettysburg College students, faculty, and staff but must be reserved in advance at the Box Office.

Support for the Majestic Theater plays a vital role in sustaining these vibrant offerings. Nearly every day of the year, the theater brings film, theatre, music, and dance to life in its Main Hall and cinemas, made possible by the generosity of Majestic Members. Membership benefits extend for one year from the date of enrollment, applying through the remainder of the Centennial Season and into the 2026-2027 season. During the November 14 Centennial Celebration, Executive Director Brett Messenger announced the establishment of the Majestic Future Fund, dedicated to preserving the theater’s historic structure and modern equipment so it can continue serving the community for many years to come.
