Friends of the Littlestown Library upcoming events for 2026

by Sharon Lentzner

We celebrated our 14th year at our present location at 232 North Queen Street in Littlestown. This is a library that was built by the dedicated hard work and sacrifice of the members of the community. We are busy making plans for fundraising events to help support our library. Funds raised will be used for special children’s programs, guest speakers, presenters, reading, research, and computer workstations, among many other things. The dedicated work of the Friends can literally make a lasting difference in the programming of the library.

I am excited to be able to tell you what we will be doing this year and what events are coming up.

Our first fundraiser of 2026 is our Soup Sale on Feb. 13th. We will be making our delicious chicken corn and beef vegetable soups that we are so well known for in our community. The soup can be pre-ordered at the Littlestown Library or by calling 717-359-9550.

In mid-April, we will hold our annual Book Sale at Bethel Assembly of God Church, 1125 Frederick St., Littlestown, Pa. We will have thousands of books by authors you know and love and some of your old favorites, ALL AT BARGAIN PRICES. High-quality books from literary fiction to political biographies are marked at reduced prices. Saturday will be bag day, when you buy three grocery bags full, you get the 4th one free. When sorting through the donated books we find many interesting treasures and collectables for our Specialty table, be sure to check that out. We always have a good crowd on Friday and Saturday. We have been complimented many times on how well the books are organized and that the books are in such good shape. Check the Library’s website and the Gettysburg paper for dates and times.

In May, we will be going to the Gettysburg Farmer’s Market to give free children’s and young readers’ books to the children attending.

In June and July, we will be working on our float for the Good Ole Days Parade, which will be on Thursday, the 13th of August. On Aug. 15th at Good Ole Days in Crouse Park, we will again be giving free books to the children. They love coming to our booth to find just the right book for themselves.

In mid-October, we will be having our Fall Soup Sale. Again, we have our ever-popular chicken corn and beef vegetable soups. All soup is pre-ordered by calling the Littlestown Library or 717-359-9550.

For Halloween night, we bag candy and give it out to the many children that come to Trick or Treat from 6-8 PM.

If you would like to join in any of these fun activities, please consider joining our group. We welcome all. Our meetings are the first Thursday of the month at 6:30 PM at Littlestown Library in the Community room. For more information, you can call 717-359-9550.
