“Gettysburg” 30th Anniversary Festival comes to town in October

Main Street Gettysburg is proud to be cooperating with Journey Through Hallowed Ground, Gettysburg National Military Park, Gettysburg Foundation, American Battlefield Trust, Seminary Ridge Museum, and Adams County Historical Society to host a celebration of the 30th anniversary of the movie “Gettysburg.”

The 1993 movie, filmed on location in Gettysburg, was adapted from the 1974 historical novel “The Killer Angels” by Michael Shaara. The film features Tom Berenger as James Longstreet, Jeff Daniels as Joshua Chamberlain, Martin Sheen as Robert E. Lee, Stephen Lang as George Pickett, and Sam Elliott as John Buford.

Director Ron Maxwell and members of the original cast will be in Gettysburg from Oct. 13 through 15, 2023, for a weekend-long festival celebrating the acclaimed film.

This festival will feature two screenings of “Gettysburg,” the premiere of Ron Maxwell’s “Copperhead,” panel discussions, and cast and crew signing opportunities.

Other scheduled events include a bus tour of “Gettysburg” filming locations and an exhibition of privately owned Gettysburg movie memorabilia sponsored by the Adams County Historical Society, a Friday evening BBQ with cast and crew, and tours of the Seminary Ridge Cupola,

The “Gettysburg” screenings, introduced by Director Ron Maxwell, are Friday Oct. 13 at 4:00 p.m. and Saturday, Oct 14 at 12:30 p.m., both at the Gettysburg Majestic Theater,
