The Gettysburg Adams Kiwanis Club celebrated its 70th anniversary this month as members reflected on the club’s decades of service to the community.
Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to improving the world one child and one community at a time. At a local level, the club’s goal is to support the children of Gettysburg and Adams County, Pennsylvania.

Throughout the year, the Gettysburg Adams Kiwanis Club raises funds to further its mission, namely through the summer blueberry sale and holiday nut sale. In the past four years, the Gettysburg Adams Kiwanis Club has distributed nearly $54,000 to community organizations including Special Olympics, local school districts and the public library.
The nut sale is currently ongoing, while supplies last. Sweet and salty varieties including pecans, cashews, almonds and more can be purchased online at Kiwanis-club-of-gettysburg—adams-county-pa.square.site.
Club members can also be found volunteering with the United Way of Adams County, selling food at Adams County Library FunFest, and ringing bells for the Salvation Army’s Red Kettle fundraiser. The club also supports the Gettysburg Area High School Key Club, a student-led organization that is part of the Kiwanis family.
“We are a small but mighty club dedicated to supporting and funding programs that benefit the youth of Adams County,” Kiwanis Club President Katie Niederer said. “For generations, the Kiwanis Club of Gettysburg has proudly carried out this mission, uniting professionals who share a deep commitment to enriching our community and placing value on programs that empower our young people.”
The club typically meets once a month and continues to welcome new members. Meetings are held at 6 p.m. the second Monday of the month at Destination Gettysburg, 1560 Fairfield Road. Upcoming meetings include Feb. 10 and March 10. To stay connected, follow the Gettysburg Adams Kiwanis Club on Facebook or email gettysburgadamskiwanis@gmail.com for more information.
